Exporting to the United Kingdom: A handbook for Ghanaian women-led businesses in the cosmetics sector
This handbook supports Ghanaian women-led businesses in the cosmetics sector to export to the United Kingdom. It outlines key legal, regulatory, and procedural requirements, helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigate UK market entry.
Topics include business registration, export licensing, product classification, responsible person appointment, safety assessments, intellectual property, packaging and labelling, and sustainability considerations. The handbook also addresses customs procedures, VAT, transport, voluntary certifications, and what to expect after products reach the market. A practical checklist guides users through essential steps for compliance and success.
This handbook was developed by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and Sidley Austin, in collaboration with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom.
