Our special guest, Ms. Dong Wu, Chief of Trade in Services and Development Section at UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), will explain the intricacies of mutual recognition agreements using examples from Africa and Asia.
This session will discuss the significance of Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) for female professionals seeking to expand their businesses, how they work in practice drawing on examples from both Africa and Asia. Furthermore, the session will offer recommendations regarding key priority areas aimed at optimizing MRAs for female professionals.

Policy dialogue: International investment and the transmission of gender policies and practices
ITC SheTrades, in collaboration with UNCTAD, is organizing a series of onlline policy dialogues on the AfCFTA.
The series kicks off with a policy dialogue on “International Investment and the Transmission of Gender Policies and Practices”. During this session, we will discuss state-of-the-art research and policy options on the role of foreign investment and multinational enterprises (MNEs) in promoting inclusive development.

About the speaker
Dr. Amelia U. Santos-Paulino is Chief of the Investment Research Section at the UN Trade and Development (UNTAD), and previously worked at UNU-WIDER and the University of Sussex.
She was a Senior Economist at the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic and Senior Advisor in the US-DR-CAFTA negotiations.
Dr. Santos-Paulino also held full-time and visiting posts at prestigious academic institutions worldwide. Her research is published in renowned journals and edited books. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kent in the UK.

Given the AfCFTA’s potential to foster regional value chains and its ambition to encompass goods, services, intellectual property, competition and investment, it is critical that women are well-positioned to seize opportunities in regional trade. The project, SheTrades: Empowering Women in the African Continental Free Trade Area—Phase II, contributes to ITC One Trade Africa strategy on African regional integration. It aims to empower women entrepreneurs to benefit from trade opportunities created by the AfCFTA.
