Studio Mayasir is a Bangladeshi textile and apparel SME which has been catering to the domestic and South Asian markets for close to two decades and is presently seeking to enter the Euro-American market.
Ms Maheen Khan, designer for Studio Mayasir, attended Showroom Paris in June 2019. The event was organised in partnership with Style House Files, Lagos Fashion Week, and Nigerian Export Promotion Council during Paris Fashion Week, and it targeted the international buying community and comprised both business-to-business and direct-to-consumers sessions.
During Showroom Paris, Ms Maheen Khan gained critical insights into a myriad of considerations which are fundamental to success in the fashion industry. For instance, Ms Khan learned how to position her products for the European market, create look books and line sheets, and engage buyers effectively and professionally. Importantly, the designer learned how to conduct research to forecast trends in colour, textures, themes, and stories. Exposure to such trends meant that Ms Khan was able to integrate new design elements into her high-end resort wear collection to ensure that they are not only wearable, but also fashion-forward and affordable.
Other than refining her expertise on design technicalities and business management, Showroom Paris also connected Maheen with buyers such as Koi Bird, Mcmullen, United Arrowhead Japan, and Barneys New York – just to name a few. At the Paris event, Studio Mayasir secured trade leads worth up to 27,500 Euros.
In September 2019, Ms Maheen Khan was awarded the prestigious Athena Certificate of Excellence for her exemplary work in empowering roughly 3,000 underprivileged and landless women through her company’s schemes. Inspired and energised from Showroom Paris, Ms. Khan plans to complete her digital look books for both Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2020 collections.
