Technical Note on Definitions for Women’s Businesses

What is the current landscape when it comes to definitions used to describe businesses owned or led by women? What implications does this have on women’s entrepreneurial development? Finally, what are the gains of having a universally-adopted definition(s) referring to women’s entrepreneurship?

This technical note was developed to support the international consultative process organised by the International Trade Centre’s SheTrades Initiative, the Swedish Institute of Standards, and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), which leads to an International Workshop Agreement on “Women Entrepreneurship – Terminology and General Guidance”.
