Dubai Exports together with the International Trade Centre (ITC) are launching the SheTrades Middle East and North Africa Hub. The Hub will support, develop, coordinate and catalyse stakeholders in the MENA trade to create a transformative environment for women entrepreneurs.
During the event, policymakers, the business community and representatives of Women Business Organisations will convene to galvanise support for the ITC SheTrades initiative, leveraging trade as a channel for the economic empowerment of women.
High level delegates will discuss policy considerations as well as the role of technology, and highlight ways in which their organisations can adopt practical interventions in support of SheTrades MENA Hub, contributing to ensuring that trade leads to sustainable development, resilience and inclusive growth.
Gender equality and the empowerment of women is a prerequisite of achieving the Global Development Goals on Sustainable Development adopted at the United Nations General Assembly, setting forth an ambitious development agenda to 2030. In the Middle East only 40% of the female population is active in the economy compared to 80% of male population. Research shows that working women would raise household income by up to 25 percent in Arab countries and, in the United Arab Emirates an equal number of women and men working would raise the country’s GDP by 12 percent.
