In the framework of the NTF IV Project in Uganda, the International Trade Centre (ITC) SheTrades leveraged its expertise to promote gender-inclusive policies to unlock market opportunities for women entrepreneurs.
SheTrades’ activities kicked off with a stakeholders’ consultation in July 2020 that identified the following priority areas for the project’s interventions: enhancing women’s participation in public procurement, preparing women-owned businesses to fully benefit from the opportunities resulting from the African Free Continental Trade Area (AfCFTA); and collecting quality data on women’s participation in trade. Following the request of public sector stakeholders, SheTrades conducted an in-depth business survey to better understand women’s participation in trade in Uganda.
From July 2020 to June 2021, SheTrades organized several activities with various stakeholders, including policy makers, representatives of women’s business organizations, civil society organizations, and women-owned businesses to support economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs.
