Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards: Call for Applications

About the Awards

At Unilever, our investment in the Young Entrepreneurs Awards is driven by a simple but clear purpose: to make sustainable living commonplace.

We believe the world will only succeed in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals if we all start to think and work differently. That means a real shift towards meaningful partnerships and collaboration across the whole range of players – from governments to NGOs, and big businesses to start-ups. Imagine what we can achieve together.

That’s why, five years ago, we started the Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards, in partnership with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, to recognise and support brilliant young innovators tackling the planet’s biggest environmental and social challenges, and to help them achieve scale for impact.

Entrepreneurs can enter the Awards online at http://bit.ly/ULYEA from 10 May 2018 [00:00 BST] to 29 June [23:59 BST].

Who can enter?

Anyone from around the world (excluding Russia), aged between 18 and 35 (as of 29 June 2018), who is working on an initiative in one of our eight categories detailed on the previous page.

The initiative must have already progressed beyond the idea stage and started making an impact.

Early bird incentive

Entries submitted between 10 May 2018 [00:00 BST] and 08 June 2018 [23:59 BST] will have the opportunity to win an ‘early bird’ reward: a 2-hour, bespoke mentoring session with a University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership mentor. Three early bird entry winners will be announced in September 2018. Please note, this recognition does not influence the wider competition assessment process.

What is the selection process?

The Young Entrepreneurs Awards will recognise up to eight winners in 2018, selected through a rigorous and competitive assessment process, coordinated by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and involving expert panellists from Unilever and the sustainability, innovation and social enterprise sectors. Read more about the process.

What can entrepreneurs win?

Up to eight winners will attend a three day accelerator programme at the University of Cambridge, where they will receive support from expert faculty on building and further developing their initiative. Two days of pitching to a guest judging panel will determine an overall winner who will receive the ‘HRH Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize’.

The ‘HRH Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize’ winner will receive a €50,000 cash award and the remaining seven winners will each receive a €8,500 cash award.

All eight winners will also receive tailored business mentoring services for 12 months provided by experts from Unilever and the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. This could range from business support and connections through to personal development coaching – whatever is most needed to help each winner.

All winners will attend a special prize ceremony in London.
